Patient's question:
Patient Gender:Female
Detailed Condition and Purpose of Consultation:
Menstrual pain with very little blood flow; one sanitary pad can last for 2 days? It has been like this since her first period in her teens, and it's still very painful. Can traditional Chinese medicine regulate this? Or should she see a Western medicine doctor? If she sees a Western medicine doctor, which tests are necessary? Which treatment—traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine—is more effective for menstrual pain with little blood flow? Thank you.
Doctor's answer:
Hello; Based on your condition, it should be considered as caused by abnormal hormone secretion. It is recommended to visit a hospital for an endocrine examination. Dysmenorrhea refers to lower abdominal pain that occurs during or around the menstrual period, affecting work or health. Dysmenorrhea can be classified into primary and secondary types. For secondary dysmenorrhea, etiological treatment should be performed. For primary dysmenorrhea, when the pain is severe, "atropine" 0.5 mg can be administered intramuscularly, or symptomatic treatment can be provided using pain relievers such as "aspirin." Progestogen therapy can also be used, such as taking "norethisterone" 2.5–5 mg or "medroxyprogesterone" 4–8 mg orally once daily, starting on the 5th day of the menstrual period, and continuing for 22 days, for 3 cycles. Additionally, "progesterone" 10–20 mg can be administered intramuscularly once daily, starting 7 days before the onset of menstruation, and continuing for 5 days. Estrogen therapy can also be chosen, such as taking "diethylstilbestrol" 0.5–1 g orally once daily, starting on the 6th day of the menstrual cycle, and continuing for 20 days.
