In these stories, the author uses humor to portray the character of an eccentric, imaginative, honest, and hardworking Jewish "little man," reflecting the tragic fate of Jews under the autocratic rule of the Tsarist Russia in a realistic and profound way. Reading these humorous stories will make you laugh uncontrollably, but after the laughter, you will inevitably shed tears.
