Irregular vaginal bleeding for two years, what could be the disease, could it be cancer?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I have been experiencing irregular vaginal bleeding for two years. An ultrasound examination showed no abnormalities, but I have cervical erosion, which has been present since I was a girl. I bleed without sexual intercourse, and after taking vitamin K1 to stop the bleeding, it started again about four or five days after my last menstrual period. I visited a gynecologist and took Chinese medicine, but it didn't help. A cervical smear test also showed no problems. What could be the cause of this?

Doctor's answer:

Irregular vaginal bleeding can be of physiological or pathological origin. Generally, during the ovulation period, some women may experience ovulatory bleeding, also known as mid-cycle bleeding, which refers to light bleeding between two normal menstrual periods and may be accompanied by varying degrees of mild abdominal pain. If the symptoms are mild, no treatment is needed. However, if the bleeding is heavy or affects fertility, medication can be used.
However, irregular vaginal bleeding should also be considered as a possible symptom of the following conditions: cervical polyps, acute vaginitis, severe cervical erosion, cervical cancer, submucosal uterine fibroids, and others. Additionally, sometimes due to the insertion of an intrauterine device (IUD), small blood streaks may be present in the vaginal discharge.
It is recommended that you visit a hospital for examination and consult a doctor to identify the cause, receive timely and appropriate treatment.
