Patient's question:
I want to go to the hospital for physical therapy. I also have candidiasis of the vagina and wonder if I can do it at the same time?Doctor's answer:
Hello: Mild cervical erosion generally does not require treatment, just pay attention to hygiene and rest. However, candidiasis needs active treatment.Treatment for candidiasis can be done using pure Western medicine or a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
(1) General treatment: Actively treat other diseases that can cause candidiasis and eliminate susceptible factors. Keep the external genitalia clean and dry, and avoid scratching. Abstain from sexual activity during treatment. Avoid spicy and irritating foods.
(2) Changing the vaginal pH: The optimal pH value for the growth of Candida is 5.5. Therefore, using alkaline solutions to rinse the external genitalia and vagina and adjusting the vaginal pH can inhibit the growth and reproduction of Candida. A 2%–4% baking soda solution can be used to rinse the vagina once or twice a day, with 2 weeks as one course of treatment. After rinsing, dry the external genitalia to maintain dryness and inhibit the growth of Candida.
(3) Vaginal medication: Using imidazole ointments for vaginal medication is very effective for candidiasis. Clotrimazole suppositories, one per night, are inserted into the vagina after rinsing, with 10–14 days as one course of treatment; or Daktarin suppositories, one per night, are applied to the vagina after rinsing, with 7 days as one course of treatment.
(4) External ointments: Applying clotrimazole ointment or Daktarin ointment externally can treat vulvitis caused by Candida infection and relieve symptoms of vulvar itching and pain. Apply externally several times a day and use for 2 weeks. Eucerin ointment is primarily based on econazole and contains a small amount of local steroid treatment agent, providing good anti-itch effects. It is effective for vulvar candidiasis and vulvovaginitis.
