Which ring is generally better now?

Patient's question:

Please ask which type of IUD is generally better now.
First follow-up question: I got an IUD today, it's a metal circular one. The doctor said my uterus is only 5.5 cm, making it prone to falling out. I would like to ask how I can avoid this after getting the IUD. Also, people say there are some complications after getting an IUD, but what are they, and how can I minimize the risk?

Doctor's answer:

An intrauterine device (IUD), also known as a contraceptive device or spiral, is the most widely used and popular female contraceptive tool in China. There are numerous types and models of IUDs, with over 40 varieties currently used domestically and internationally. These IUDs can be divided into two major categories based on their performance.
One category is inert IUDs, also known as non-active IUDs, which are first-generation products. They are mostly made of stainless steel wire or plastic, such as the stainless steel single ring (also known as the circular ring), double ring, twisted ring, and uterine-type ring; plastic-made spiral rings, lily-ring, eugenic ring, as well as mixed rings made of metal and plastic. This type of IUD was the earliest and most widely used in China, and the stainless steel single ring remains the primary choice for current use. Their disadvantages are relatively high rates of expulsion and pregnancy with an IUD.
Inserting an IUD is not painful. After menstruation ends, you can visit a gynecology clinic for an ultrasound to ensure the uterus is developing normally, and then the IUD can be inserted. There are generally O-shaped, T-shaped, γ-shaped, etc., each with its own characteristics and shortcomings. The doctor will select the most suitable type based on your condition. After insertion, you can go home. For the next check-up, you only need to have an ultrasound at the hospital 3–7 days after your next menstruation to ensure the IUD is in the correct position. So there is absolutely no need to be nervous.
