It delves deeply into the relationship between the personality factors of Western Jin writers and their literary styles from perspectives such as region, family culture, social customs, writers' ideological beliefs, individual temperament, knowledge and talent, and life experiences, aiming to grasp the characteristics of Western Jin literature from the perspective of individual differences among writers. The Western Jin writers focused on in this book are: Fu Xuan and Zhang Hua of the early Jin dynasty; the "Three Zhangs, Two Lu, Two Pan, and One Zuo" highly praised by Zhong Rong in Poetic Criticism, with Zhang Kang being excluded as he left almost no surviving works; Liu Kun and Lu Chen of the middle and later periods of Western Jin. As for Guo Pu, although he spent most of his life in Western Jin, his influence on the literary scene only became evident in the Eastern Jin period. Liu Xie called him "the crown of the," and Zhong Rong also regarded him as the "," so this book categorizes him as an Eastern Jin writer for the time being and does not discuss him here. It should be noted that, first, due to the complexity of personality factors and the limitations of time and length, this book can only discuss the relationship between the prominent aspects of the personalities of famous Western Jin writers and their representative works.
