What is the reason for amenorrhea after an abortion?

Patient's question:

I had an abortion in April this year. For the next four months, my menstruation was relatively normal, but in September this year, my period lasted only two days, and then it didn't come again in October and November. Is it possible that the abortion caused endometrial adhesion or some other reason?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: According to your situation, it is first necessary to rule out the possibility of pregnancy. There is also a possibility of amenorrhea.
Some women who previously had regular menstrual cycles may experience menstrual irregularity or absence of menstruation after an induced abortion. This phenomenon is known as post-abortion secondary amenorrhea. Why does this occur? This is because:
(1)、Premature sexual intercourse and after the operation. Some women engage in sexual activity with their husbands within a few days of the surgery; or they ignore the doctor's advice and take a, allowing bacteria to invade the vagina and uterus, causing uterine cavity infection and leading to menstrual disorders and amenorrhea.
(2)、Excessive mental tension and anxiety. Fear before the surgery, fear of induced abortion, or the psychological burden of being unable to conceive or bear children, especially for unmarried pregnant women who feel ashamed. If this emotional state does not change after the surgery, it can lead to amenorrhea.
(3)、Individual differences. Every person's body is different. Some women experience hormonal changes after an induced abortion, with a sudden drop in the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), causing the ovaries to temporarily fail to respond to gonadotropins from the anterior pituitary gland. This results in the endometrium not changing cyclically and leading to amenorrhea.
(4)、Frequent induced abortions. Some women undergo multiple induced abortions within a year, causing their endometrium to be scraped thin and unable to recover in a short period. If the basal layer of the endometrium is completely damaged, it can lead to permanent amenorrhea. Partial damage may cause temporary amenorrhea.
