What are the reasons for abnormal menstruation with blood clots?

Patient's question:

Doctor:
Hello! I've been experiencing itching in my vulva recently, with redness around it. Nine months ago, I had a yeast infection, but it was cured, and subsequent tests showed no recurrence. After the yeast infection was resolved, the doctor said I had cervical erosion of 2-3 degrees and excessive, curd-like discharge. They prescribed medication several times but did not perform physical therapy. Later, I stopped going for check-ups. Recently, due to the vulvar itching, I had a check-up, but the vaginal discharge test did not show any yeast infection. However, my period arrived 6 days early, and the bleeding was less than usual—only blood clots came out when I urinated, with no abdominal pain. Could you please tell me what could be the reason? Is this my period or something else?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, it is best to actively undergo urological examinations to determine your condition. For your cervical erosion, the local treatment using vaginal medication is a non-invasive method, but this approach is ineffective for cervical erosion of moderate or severe degree. Methods such as phototherapy, cryotherapy, laser, and electrocoagulation can be used for local cervical treatment. This method may cause mild damage to the cervix locally and sometimes affect its expansibility during childbirth, but it will not lead to infertility. On the contrary, severe cervical erosion or acute infections combined with it, if left untreated, can result in infertility. Therefore, for women who have never been pregnant and suffer from cervical erosion, if it does not affect pregnancy and is not accompanied by acute infections, cervical laser treatment can be performed after childbirth.
