What medicine is good for treating vaginitis and cervical erosion?

Patient's question:

Please ask the doctor:
I am 21 years old. Recently, when I had an abortion, the doctor examined me and said I had vaginitis and cervical erosion. Can the condition be cured by taking medication directly? Or is there any other good solution?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: First, it is necessary to determine what type of vaginal inflammation infection you have, which means identifying the specific cause of the infection. Then, the appropriate medication for treatment can be determined. As for cervical erosion, there are many treatment methods available, and the choice can be adjusted according to the degree of erosion. The main methods are as follows:
(1)Medication: For small erosion areas with relatively shallow inflammation infiltration, the following medication methods can be used:
① 10–20% silver nitrate: Applied locally once a week, with 2–4 applications constituting one course of treatment.
② Potassium permanganate: Applied locally after menstruation, with a repeat application after 1–2 months. When using these medications, careful operation is required to prevent burns to the surrounding vaginal walls. Additionally, proper disinfection should be observed during medication to prevent reinfection.
(2)Physical therapy: Used for larger erosion areas with deeper inflammation infiltration.
① Electrocautery: A special electrocautery device is used to burn the erosion tissue, causing it to necrose and fall off. The treatment should reach a certain depth to ensure effective results.
② Cryotherapy: A special rapid-freezing device is used to freeze and necrose the diseased tissue on the erosion area, causing it to fall off. Liquid nitrogen is commonly used as the cryoprotectant, with the cryotherapy device's cold head temperature reaching -196°C. The device is applied to the surface of the cervix, causing the erosion tissue to freeze, necrose, and fall off, followed by the regeneration of new epithelial tissue. One treatment is typically sufficient. Generally, there are no adverse reactions, though some patients may experience mild dizziness or lower abdominal pain.
