Features: Currently, the utilization and protection of land resources in China face three major contradictions: First, the contradiction between the scarce arable land resources and the growing demand for agricultural products due to population growth; second, the contradiction between the increasing demand for urban construction land resulting from urbanization and economic development, and the development of agricultural production and adjustment of agricultural production structure; third, the contradiction between economic development and ecological environment construction in terms of land use. Carrying out land consolidation is the objective requirement to resolve the aforementioned contradictions and also an inevitable choice to achieve sustainable land resource utilization. Therefore, land consolidation will become one of the core contents of land utilization and land management in China in the current and the coming period. Land consolidation is not only a topic of common concern for land managers and theoretical researchers of land resource, but also attracts widespread attention from society due to its nature as a systematic project involving economy, society, ecology, and engineering technology. Currently, land consolidation planning is being formulated across the country in accordance with the unified deployment of the Ministry of Land and Resources, and many places have already implemented or are in the process of implementing land consolidation practices. In China, modern land consolidation, which began in the late 20th century, has a brief history, and many theoretical and practical issues remain to be explored and studied. The purpose of this book is to focus on the construction of land consolidation goals and models for specific regions, making it a part of the exploration and research on various issues related to land consolidation. Starting from the perspectives of sustainable land resource utilization and regional socio-economic sustainable development, and based on the main issues in land utilization in Southwest China, this book adopts a combination of theoretical discussion and empirical analysis to study the goals and models of land consolidation in Southwest China, aiming to provide valuable references and insights for land consolidation practices in the region. The basic framework of the book is as follows: First, based on a systematic summary of domestic and international research achievements in land consolidation and an analysis of the development trends, the goal system and regional allocation of land consolidation are established according to the practical background of land consolidation in Southwest China, combined with land use characteristics, socio-economic development levels, and regional division of ecological environment construction. A model system of land consolidation from different perspectives such as function, region, and land consolidation objects, as well as regional model combinations, are proposed. Second, using selected areas such as some counties in the Three Gorges Reservoir area of Chongqing, Sichuan Deyang in the Sichuan Western Plain, Yibin in the Sichuan Basin periphery, Bijie in Guizhou on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, and Chuxiong in Yunnan as case studies, an empirical analysis of the goals, models, and benefits of land consolidation in different topographical regions within Southwest China is conducted. Finally, countermeasures and suggestions are proposed to promote the continuous development of land consolidation in Southwest China. As a science, land consolidation has its objective laws of occurrence, development, and perfection. As an important component of implementing land use planning, land consolidation will undergo a process of continuous improvement and maturation. We believe that the writing of this book is an important effort to summarize the scientific laws of land consolidation and explore its practical models. Therefore, we hope that readers of this book can systematically understand the connotation and characteristics of land consolidation, the development trends of land consolidation domestically and internationally, the goal system and model system of land consolidation, as well as their allocation plans in specific regions. The author also hopes that this book can provide valuable references for land management and related administrative personnel. This book is the outcome of the Science and Technology Program Project of the Ministry of Land and Resources, "Research on the Goals and Models of Land Consolidation in Southwest China," and was completed through the collaborative efforts of the project team, representing the crystallization of collective wisdom. The overall design and editing of the book were primarily completed by Yang Qingyuan. Chapters 1, 6, and 7 were co-authored by Yang Qingyuan and Zhou Baotong; Chapters 2, 3, and 4 were written by Yang Qingyuan; Chapter 5 was written by Zhou Baotong; Chapter 6 was co-authored by Yang Qingyuan, Zhou Tao, and Tian Yongzhong; Tu Jianjun wrote Chapters 9 and 10; Chapters 8 and 11 were co-authored by Zhou Tao, Yang Qingyuan, Tu Jianjun, and Tian Yongzhong; Tian Yongzhong was responsible for data processing and figure drawing in the book.
