What is uterine anteversion?

Patient's question:

How does uterine anteversion work? Can an ultrasound examination fully check if the uterus, adnexa, and fallopian tubes are normal?

Doctor's answer:

The normal position of the uterus is anteflexion, meaning the fundus of the uterus points towards the pubis, forming an obtuse angle of 120° to 150° between the cervix and the uterine body. Approximately 80% of women have an anteflexed uterus, while 20% have a retroflexed uterus, and less than 5% experience symptoms. The most common uterine displacement is retroversion and retroflexion, followed by anteflexion and anteflexion. Most people are asymptomatic, but those with retroversion and retroflexion may experience lower back pain, rectal fullness, dysmenorrhea, excessive leukorrhea, and severe cases may lead to infertility.
