Patient's question:
Doctor, hello, I came in for an ovary check-up 20 days after my period, and the follicle size was 2.2... I came back again on day 22, but there was no ovulation. (Both were done on the same machine by the same person using a vaginal ultrasound.) The result showed a follicle size of 1.8. In my case, did I ovulate? If not, what could be the problem, and what should I do? Thank you.Detailed medical history and consultation purpose: What is the issue, and what should be done?

Doctor's answer:
An ovary is composed of an oocyte and many small follicle cells surrounding it. At the beginning of each menstrual cycle, multiple follicles develop simultaneously, but generally only one or two develop to maturity, which is known as the dominant follicle. After maturation, the follicle will ovulate. Typically, follicles are round or oval-shaped, and they must reach a certain size (18-25mm) before they can be released and fertilized.
