Features: In the ancient Chinese political system, "circle" is a very important keyword. The concept of a circle is merely a notion of living range for the common people, but within the political system, it is the foundation for an official to survive and thrive. When an official is involved in this system, whether they actively and consciously join a circle or are unconsciously drawn into a faction, or are simply seen as someone's "person," they are often categorized and labeled. A circle represents a political force. To completely stay out of it, the result is likely to be marginalization: no one above will take care of you, and no one below will follow you. An isolated figure, unable to make a mark, will find it difficult to realize their ambitions. The study and management of circles can be said to be one of the most fundamental aspects for ancient political officials. Small figures must choose their circles wisely, seek to join them, and gradually elevate their status within them; influential figures must build and manage their own circles, maneuvering to form their own capital and power; the highest-level leaders (such as emperors) must balance various circles: allowing them to exist and compete, but not tolerating any single faction from becoming too powerful and threatening their own position.
