Features: Through the collection of literature and expert consultations, the research topic was determined in 2001. During this period, I received extensive support and guidance from my supervisor and other individuals, ultimately completing the research in May 2003. This monograph is the outcome of that research. I believe that exploring college students' sports lives from the perspective of mass media education is a new attempt for both school physical education and mass media studies. In this study, mass media is treated as a unique entry point for examining college students' sports lives. The features of this monograph are primarily reflected in the following aspects:
First, it employs a systematic quantitative research method to conduct a comparative and systematic investigation and analysis of Chinese college students' exposure to various stages of mass media, gathering a large amount of empirical data and filling the gaps in research on sports communication, school physical education, and the college student population.
Second, it combines quantitative and qualitative research methods to conduct an in-depth study of the impact of mass media on college students, yielding new findings that contribute to the advancement and promotion of related research in school physical education and communication studies in China.
Third, as an early part of a long-term research plan, the study lays the foundation for future research and demonstrates the potential to establish a "sports information communication model in China."
Fourth, as a study during China's comprehensive construction of a moderately prosperous society and the vigorous development of higher education, this monograph also offers suggestions and recommendations on how to further promote the continuation and comprehensive development of school physical education. It highlights the role of mass communication as a powerful tool of modern civilization in college students' sports lives, suggests ways to strengthen and improve its functions, and proposes specific policies and measures.
