Is it normal to have stomach pain after getting an IUD?

Patient's question:

Medical Description: It has been a week since I had the IUD inserted, and now I sometimes feel lower abdominal pain, sometimes sharp, like needle pricks.
Past Treatment and Effect: I had the IUD inserted four days after my second menstrual period following an abortion. I had previously undergone medication-induced abortion. Now, a week after inserting the IUD, I still feel lower abdominal pain. There has been little bleeding since the insertion. The doctor said my cervix is enlarged.
Help Needed: Is this kind of pain normal? Is it related to the cervix being enlarged?

Doctor's answer:

It may be due to an unsuitable size or displacement. If the pain is severe, please seek immediate follow-up. An intrauterine device (IUD) may cause the following side effects or complications: excessive menstrual bleeding, prolonged menstruation, or spotting during the mid-cycle, lower abdominal discomfort, etc. The following precautions should be observed: rest for 3 days post-operation, avoid heavy physical labor within 1 week, avoid sexual intercourse and tub baths within 2 weeks, and maintain external genital hygiene. Regular follow-up is required, and attention should be paid to the possibility of IUD displacement during each menstrual period or bowel movement within 3 months. For severe symptoms, anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications can be taken. If the condition does not improve after treatment, the IUD should be removed and alternative contraception methods should be considered.
