Why is the menstrual blood brown?

Patient's question:

Doctor:
Hello, please help me take a look at my menstrual issue.
Previously, it was said that if there was bloody leukorrhea about a week after menstruation, it was related to the ovulation period.
But in July, about ten days after menstruation, there was either bloody or light brown menstruation, lasting about two to three days. In November, I went to the bathroom and suddenly dropped two dark brown pieces with a little creamy substance. What could be the problem? (Previously, there had been similar occurrences, but not like now, happening continuously for several months. It used to be just once or twice a year.)

Doctor's answer:

Hello: According to your condition, it cannot be diagnosed yet. During the mid-cycle, i.e., the ovulation period, estrogen levels temporarily decline, causing the endometrium to lose hormonal support and partially shed, leading to regular vaginal bleeding, which is known as ovulatory bleeding. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is referred to as "intermenstrual bleeding."
Treatment
1. Western medicine treatment: Diethylstilbestrol 0.25–0.5 mg per day, starting 3 days before ovulation and stopping 2–3 days after the bleeding stops.
2. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment: Liuwei Dihuang Wan, Gujing Wan, and Xuefu Zhuyu Wan.
Prevention and Care
1. Pay attention to menstrual and postpartum health care, maintain external genital hygiene, and prevent pelvic infection.
2. Keep a calm mood and avoid excessive stress.
