Patient's question:
We consulted a gynecologist who believed that the cervical polyp had not completely detached and that the IUD removal process might have caused significant bleeding.Doctor's answer:
In certain situations, the intrauterine device (IUD) still needs to be removed, for example:1. If irregular vaginal bleeding or excessive menstrual flow occurs after insertion, and these adverse reactions affect your health, the IUD should be removed promptly if medication is ineffective.
2. If the inserted IUD has reached its expiration date, it should be removed by a healthcare provider to prevent deformation or failure within the uterus. Generally, metal IUDs can be stored for 20 years, silicone V-shaped IUDs for 7–10 years, and copper-coated T-shaped IUDs for 10–15 years. A new IUD can be inserted during the removal process.
3. If significant changes occur in the menstrual cycle during menopause, such as prolonged cycles or postmenopausal bleeding lasting more than 6 months, the IUD should be removed in a timely manner.
