Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: Menstrual hypomenorrhea with prolonged cycleDuration of the current illness and its persistence: November 16, 2005 to present
Previous diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes: Phlegm-dampness
Doctor's answer:
Menstrual volume is low due to low estrogen levels or uterine developmental abnormalities. Estrogen stimulates the proliferation and thickening of the endometrium to prepare for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur, the proliferated endometrium will shed and bleed, forming menstruation. Low estrogen levels in the body can lead to insufficient endometrial thickening (i.e., thinning of the endometrium), resulting in less bleeding during menstruation. There are two other possible reasons for low menstrual flow: one is cervical adhesion or uterine cavity adhesion, which prevents menstrual blood from being expelled or causes it to flow poorly. Another possible reason is local endometrial damage leading to reduced menstrual flow. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly for examination and treatment after identifying the underlying condition.
