Features: Yan Zhenqing (709-785), styled Qingchen, was a native of Jingzhao Wannian (now Xi'an, Shaanxi). He was a renowned calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty in China. Yan Zhenqing initially studied under Chu Suiliang and later learned brush techniques from Zhang Xu. His regular script is dignified and majestic, with an expansive and powerful style. His running script is vigorous and dynamic, natural and spontaneous. The Yan style combines square and round brushstrokes, incorporating seal script influences, with clear pressure and release, and a strong, upright posture. He abandoned the clerical script style and adopted the brushwork of seal and cursive scripts, bridging the past and the future, transforming traditional calligraphic methods. The structure of Yan's characters is well-balanced, spacious, robust, dignified, and elegant, pioneering a new trend in Tang Dynasty calligraphy and exerting a profound influence on later generations. His works have remained popular for thousands of years. Famous calligraphers in subsequent dynasties often drew inspiration from Yan. He has been favored by calligraphy learners throughout history and has become a must-learn model for scholars. His extant regular script steles include the "Dabao Ta Stele," "Yan Jia Temple Stele," "Li Zhijing Stele," "Magu Xiantan Ji," and "Yan Qinli Stele." His extant running script inscriptions include the "Zhengzuowei Tie." His extant ink manuscripts include the "Self-Composed Announcement" and "Draft of Eulogy for His Nephew." These abundant Yan-style calligraphic materials have provided convenience for later learners and researchers of Chinese calligraphy. Based on years of experience in compiling calligraphy books and collecting feedback from calligraphy enthusiasts, we have specially compiled the "Selected Yan Zhenqing Calligraphy Book." This book progresses from simple to complex, systematically selecting exemplary characters from Yan Zhenqing's "Qinli Stele" and "Dabao Ta Stele." It is an invaluable model for calligraphy enthusiasts and students in primary and secondary schools to learn calligraphy and practice steles.
