The book discusses the background of the rise of Song Dynasty Classic of Poetry studies, divides its main developmental stages, and conducts an in-depth study of the characteristics of Song Dynasty Classic of Poetry literature. Song Dynasty poetry studies still fall within the realm of Confucian studies, but they have paid considerable attention to the literary characteristics of the Classic of Poetry. The poetry interpretation represented the mainstream of Song Dynasty poetry studies. Its opposition to Han studies stemmed from two reasons: first, the Han school's "beauty and criticism" theory could no longer meet the governance needs of the weak and declining Song Dynasty society, and second, scholars sought to interpret the Classic of Poetry from a literary perspective. Zhu Xi's Commentary on the Classic of Poetry is a representative of the poetry interpretation in the Song Dynasty. The textual forms of Song Dynasty Classic of Poetry literature presented a new trend, which was attributed to the prevailing social atmosphere of the time.
