Features: The Analects is a collection of sayings by Confucius and some of his disciples, one of the classics of Confucianism, and also one of the 30 Chinese and foreign masterpieces required for middle school reading under the "New Curriculum Standards." The Analects was compiled by Confucius's disciples and their successors, with the final editing likely occurring in the early Warring States period, primarily based on the works of Zeng Can's disciples. Since The Analects was compiled by various hands, the 20 chapters and 492 sections lack tight connections in content and structure, and the style is inconsistent. The Analects covers numerous fields such as philosophy, politics, economics, education, and literature, with rich content, concise and vivid language, and is a model of colloquial prose. The current 20 chapters of The Analects primarily focus on content related to philosophy and education. To facilitate the reading of The Analects by middle school students and young people, we have compiled this Student Edition of the Analects. The format of this book is as follows:
1. Outline: Summarize the main ideas of each chapter in concise language and highlight famous quotes to provide guidance for reading.
2. Original Text: Includes the full text of all 492 sections of the 20 chapters of The Analects.
3. Annotations: Refer to influential editions to explain difficult characters, words, and sentences, and annotate uncommon, archaic, and homophonic characters. Annotations are kept brief and generally do not cite ancient texts to ensure clarity.
4. Translation: Provides an accurate modern Chinese translation of the original text.
5. Analysis: Analyzes and summarizes the ideological content of the original text in concise and refined language, offering evaluations based on the moral development of young readers to inspire them to think deeply and gain insights.
6. Knowledge Links: Connects relevant historical, literary, and cultural knowledge, including historical figures, events, cultural history, classical Chinese, and more, to expand readers' knowledge and provide a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of The Analects.
