Author: Li Xiusheng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-12-01
Features: This book aims to collect Han Chinese single-paragraph prose, parallel prose, and rhyming literature other than poetry, qu, and ci from the Yuan Dynasty. The time frame for the writers included in this book is generally based on the Jin Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty. Writers from the original Jin territory are limited to those active before the death of Emperor Xizong of Jin in the third year of the Dading era (1234). Writers from the original Southern Song territory are limited to those active before the second year of the Xiangxing era of the Southern Song (1279). The lower limit is set as the twenty-eighth year of the Zhiheng era of the Yuan Dynasty (1368). Writers who moved from the Jin or Southern Song dynasties to the Yuan Dynasty, or from the Yuan Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty, and whose main activities were in the Yuan Dynasty, are included as Yuan writers. This book follows the principle of "letting the text follow the person," meaning that all works of writers already included are collected regardless of whether they were written during the Yuan Dynasty. Works in the classics, history, and philosophy sections of Yuan scholars are generally limited to prefaces, postfaces, and single-paragraph Yuan texts cited in the books. However, works that can be considered collections, such as memorial essays in the history section, historical commentaries, and legal judgments in the philosophy section, are still included as collections. For the convenience of readers, this book is organized according to the old-style compilation method, with each volume containing approximately 10,000 words of text. Writers with more works are divided into multiple volumes, while those with fewer works are grouped together in one volume. The Yuan texts included in this book are based on the best and most complete editions available, and the main text follows the original edition. If there are indeed errors in the original edition, they are corrected and annotated. For general variations, annotations are not provided. Annotations are appended at the end of each text. Minor errors in stroke order that are clearly due to printing mistakes are corrected. Each writer included in this book has a short biography that briefly introduces their name, courtesy name, title, posthumous name, birth and death years, place of origin, official career, main activities, writings, and the status of their works included in this book, with references to the historical sources used. To facilitate readers' searches, in addition to the index of each volume, the book also includes appendices such as the "Author Index of the Complete Yuan Texts," the "Title Index of the Complete Yuan Texts," and the "Bibliography of Works Cited Outside of Collected Works."
