Features: The author, Michael T. Clair, is a global security expert and defense analyst with authoritative expertise in the study of global conflicts. To write this book, he spent three and a half years, fully utilizing a vast amount of materials (including U.S. government documents and specialized industrial and military publications that are confidential to the general public), providing incisive analysis of global resource issues. From the barren oilfields in Central Asia to the prosperous Nile Delta, from the busy shipping lanes in the South China Sea to the uranium deposits and diamond mining areas in the southern Sahara, the book discusses the impact of escalating resource competition on military policies between nations. The author argues that the political antagonism of the Cold War is gradually giving way to global competition for essential raw materials such as oil, forests, minerals, and water. The author predicts that in the first decade of the 21st century, resource scarcity will become the root cause of conflicts between nations, and future wars will not break out for ideological reasons but to secure the increasingly precious supply of natural resources. All armies in the world will reposition the guarantee of resource security as their primary mission. To this end, the author calls on the world to establish a system of resource conservation and cooperation to maintain global security and peace. The book is well-researched and carries a certain authority; the author's writing is clear, concise, and insightful, with foresight, reflecting the latest trends in resource protection and utilization. It defines the vital national interests in terms of foreign policy decisions, strategic thinking, and the modernization of national defense from a strategic perspective, making it an invaluable and highly reference-worthy book.
