Features: In August 2004, the Shanghai Municipal Vocational Training Guidance Center promulgated the "Shanghai Professional Standard for Psychological Counselors," formulated based on the "National Professional Standard for Psychological Counselors" issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. In the same October, it also promulgated the "Training Plan for Psychological Counselors (National Qualification Level II)" and the "Training Plan for Assistant Psychological Counselors (National Qualification Level III)" as well as their corresponding training outlines. In the practical teaching of training, the experts involved in formulating and reviewing the training plans and outlines deeply felt that without a unified training textbook to match, it would be difficult for training institutions to strictly and effectively implement the training plans and outlines, and the assessment and certification of professional qualifications would also be difficult to standardize. Psychological counseling is still an emerging profession in China, and the training and certification of psychological counselors are even more in need of continuous exploration, summarization, standardization, and improvement. We hope that the publication of this textbook will help standardize the training content of psychological counselors and contribute to improving the quality of training. The training materials can also be used by training institutions for psychological counselors in other provinces and cities, as well as professionals engaged in psychological counseling or the general readers who wish to solve their own psychological problems through self-help.
