Features: Historical linguistics has become one of the focal points of interest in the past decade. On one hand, it has made significant progress on its own, and on the other hand, it has benefited from the advancements of related disciplines such as experimental phonetics, sociolinguistics, and typology. These developments have allowed us to gain a more precise understanding of real-world language change, enabling more reliable reconstruction of historical changes. This has given rise to the idea of revisiting traditional musical instruments from an experimental perspective to observe the evolution of Chinese phonetics. The validity of this experimental approach is based on the fundamental assumption of linguistic change uniformity, which posits that the favorable and limiting conditions for natural linguistic evolution have remained consistent throughout history, both in the past and the present, across different cultures. As a result, linguistics has the potential to be established on a solid scientific foundation.
