Features: This textbook is formed based on drawing on the main achievements of previous textbook development and summarizing the long-term teaching experience of the authors. Compared to previous textbooks, this one has two main characteristics: , its structure and format are more concise and compact. It no longer arranges the content according to the traditional "four major blocks" of ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary to avoid artificially cutting off the content; nor does it follow the format of "synopsis" and "detailed discussion" to avoid content repetition. Instead, it discusses the law primarily based on the legal system as the backbone and the development of legal systems in typical countries as the thread. Second, it places greater emphasis on summarizing the legal experiences of modern and contemporary developed countries. In terms of word count, the content of ancient and medieval law accounts for less than one-third of the total volume, while the content of modern and contemporary law constitutes more than two-thirds of the total volume, with many chapters covering the new developments in law since the late 1990s. The primary target audience for this textbook includes undergraduate and graduate students, dual-degree students, evening students, correspondence students, and self-study examinees in law programs at various higher education institutions. The authors of this textbook include not only teachers from Renmin University of China but also several experienced teachers from China University of Political Science and Law and the Chinese People's Public Security University. When this textbook was revised in 2006, the preface and each chapter were modified to varying degrees.
