Features: "An Introduction to Art and Design" was launched in 1993 as part of the higher education self-study examination for the applied arts major, which was developed to meet societal needs and cultivate practical professionals in the field of art and design. It also serves as an important component of the multi-channel development of higher art and design education. This examination format, combining national assessment, social assistance, and personal self-study, has gained widespread popularity and has, to some extent, driven and promoted the advancement of applied art and design. From the perspective of China's social needs, the Beijing Higher Education Self-Study Examination Committee has adjusted the self-study programs, establishing more scientifically and rationally defined objectives and specifications for professional training. Building upon appropriately enriching and updating the existing knowledge structure, the program has emphasized the cultivation of professional qualities, increased the proportion of foundational, basic, and specialized courses, and highlighted the assessment of professional skills. This ensures greater alignment with societal demands and a stronger sense of contemporary relevance, reflecting the standards and requirements for cultivating and selecting new-generation professionals.
The book is divided into ten parts, covering topics such as the concept and classification of design, the emergence and development of modern design, modern design in various countries, the professionalization of design and the role of designers, design thinking methods, design processes and methodologies, related disciplines of design, the organization and management of design, an overview of contemporary global design trends, and the development status of Chinese design. The primary purpose of this book is to provide an introductory guide for students in the design field and to offer a general understanding of the discipline, laying a broad foundation for further study. It enables students to recognize the broad connotations of design from the perspective of its historical development, while also helping them understand general design methods and related disciplines, and stay abreast of contemporary design trends and developments.
This series of books can serve as both a foundational course for computer graphics art and design majors and a textbook for higher education art and design programs. It is also an ideal reference for art and design professionals in fields such as industrial design, product design, exhibition design, environmental art design, and packaging design, as well as for artists and designers in media and entertainment industries.
