Many years have passed. Every time I return to my hometown from the city and sit on the sand dunes by the river, I think of my wolf-child brother, Xiaolong, and the and its family.
— Author’s Preface
In a tragic hunt for a wolf pack, I rescued a tiny wolf cub. The mother wolf snatched my brother, Xiaolong. Xiaolong grew up drinking wolf milk, becoming a wolf-child who lived like a wild beast. The little wolf cub I raised at home, Bai'er, though considered part of my family, still desperately searched for the mother wolf and crazily avenged the killers of the wolf pack. When the mother wolf’s heart-wrenching howls echoed in the wilderness at night, the wolf-child I had raised at home bit his mother and followed the mother wolf’s call.
The of survival roles, the emergence of human and wolf nature, the breakdown and of two families, and the irreconcilable conflict between the compassionate and pure nature of the wilderness and human evil and greed are vividly depicted. At the same time, the character of the wolf and the love of the mother wolf are highlighted in bold strokes. On the dreamlike Horqin grassland, the tragic story of humans and wolves returning to a hopeless fate becomes a powerful work of grassland culture.
