Under medication, if you didn't know you were pregnant, can you still have the baby?

Patient's question:

On December 17th, my period came. On December 20th, I had my first tooth pulled. I took medicine for 3 days, which included fever reducer, acetazolamide, and cefixime dispersible tablets. On the 27th, I had the stitches removed and had my second tooth pulled on the same day. Back home, I took cefixime dispersible tablets and fever reducer, and took the medicine intermittently for 7 days. On January 3rd, after having the stitches removed again, I took metronidazole and fever reducer. On the evening of January 16th, I took a test and found out I was pregnant. Can the child be kept in this situation?

Doctor's answer:

It is strictly prohibited to take nitroimidazole drugs during pregnancy. However, considering your last menstrual period on December 17, the date you would have taken metronidazole is January 3, which is a span of 17 days. 17 days could potentially be the ovulation period and the fertile period. Therefore, it is highly unlikely to cause any interference to the baby. If you choose to carry the baby, it is recommended that you undergo regular prenatal check-ups during pregnancy.
