What is premature ovarian failure?

Patient's question:

Last year, I successfully completed the culture dish, but the number of eggs collected was too few. The doctor said my ovarian function is poor, but now my ovarian function has improved. I want to see a TCM doctor to regulate it, and then do IVF in July or August. Could you please recommend a good TCM doctor? Preferably one near Khotan. Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

Actually, poor ovarian function refers to a slight decline in ovarian function. If it deteriorates to the extent of premature ovarian failure, it becomes quite serious. Premature ovarian failure occurs when women under the age of 40 experience menopausal symptoms, cease ovulating, and may have slightly enlarged ovaries. Hormone levels also exceed menopausal levels, which is then termed premature ovarian failure. Poor ovarian function is actually an early, mild decline and is quite different. The chances of conception for patients with premature ovarian failure are extremely slim.
