The Record of Orchids and Gentians Growing Together in Harmony was written by Xu Jilu of Jiaxing, Zhejiang during the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty. The book consists of two volumes, rich in content, covering various aspects of orchid cultivation and appreciation. It includes 58 popular orchid varieties from the Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions at that time. What makes it even more valuable is that it is one of the few ancient Chinese orchid books to feature illustrations of orchid varieties for comparison with real specimens.
