Features: In terms of the medium of painting, sketch refers to monochrome paintings created using simple tools like pencils, charcoal, chalk, pens, and brushes, with a single color and line as the primary means of depiction. It can be understood that any painting that depicts and shapes the characteristics of objects using a single color can be called a sketch. In the 19th century, the leader of the French classical realism painting school and master painter Ingres once said, "Apart from color, sketch can be said to encompass everything." The modeling ability of sketch is the foundation of all plastic arts. Sketch is the fundamental means for cultivating painters to master correct observation and understanding methods, as well as to develop solid modeling skills. Sketch is the discipline that studies the modeling essence of all objects in the objective world within the realm of plastic arts. This is an undeniable fact. Its undeniable nature is not only reflected in the scientific nature of sketch, which includes the knowledge achievements of disciplines such as visual psychology, anatomy, and perspective, but also in its systematicity, as well as its considerable generality and inclusiveness. Sketch is a mandatory course for every art student. It can not only improve our ability to observe things but also train our willpower and perseverance. The abilities, qualities, and characteristics cultivated through sketch learning will directly promote the study of other art courses. When learning sketch, one must approach it from an artistic perspective and study it from a scientific perspective. Of course, learning sketch is about cultivating the ability of plastic arts, not mechanical drafting-style depiction. This requires us not only to recognize and understand objective images but also to be skilled in their artistic treatment.
