In Liangshan Marsh, heroes unite.
To delve into the rise and fall of chaos,
All belongs to the yin and yang of creation.
Water Margin is a long historical novel that took hundreds of years to mature and complete during the Song and Yuan dynasties.
It collects the tragic stories of the heroes of Liangshan Marsh,
Condensing the ideals, emotions, and wisdom of countless Chinese people.
Throughout the novel runs a "loyalty to the emperor, resistance to corrupt officials"
Philosophy born in a special historical context,
And a heroic spirit deeply rooted in the common people.
Water Margin portrays a group of vivid and brilliant legendary heroes:
The resolute and fierce Wu Song, the loyal and straightforward Li Kui,
The rough but kind Xiong Zi, the fierce and clever Shi Xiu,
The righteous and capable Song Jiang, and others.
The great Ming thinker Li Zhi enthusiastically praised:
"All the heroes of Water Margin are mighty, wise, loyal, and righteous."
Water Margin followed the tradition of Song and Yuan storytelling,
Based on Northern dialect, it crafted a vivid, expressive, and exceptionally rich literary language,
Reaching the pinnacle of perfection.
The Qing Dynasty literary critic Jin Shengtan said:
"The story of Water Margin narrates one hundred and eight people,
Each with their own temperament, character, appearance, and speech."
