Features: Richard Clayderman was born in Paris in 1953. He began learning the piano from his father, who was a piano teacher, at the age of five. At six, he was already regarded as a genius. At sixteen, he graduated from the Paris National Conservatory of Music with outstanding achievements and was renowned for his proficiency in performing works by Chopin, Ravel, Debussy, and others. However, by chance, he developed an interest in popular music and, despite opposition from his family and friends, decisively changed his direction. In 1977, his performance of "Adeline" made him famous overnight. His reputation spread from the Scandinavian Peninsula to South Africa, and from Argentina to Japan, earning the admiration of audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Clayderman's piano music is extremely lyrical. Listening to his music, people unconsciously enter a world of music that is warm, peaceful, and joyful. Afterward, they are immediately filled with the strong desire to play it themselves. These pieces are fresh, free-spirited, and have beautiful melodies, with relatively low difficulty for playing. Those who have learned the piano for two or three years can master them, which is perhaps one of the reasons for their widespread popularity. To better express the musical style of Clayderman, the following points should be noted:
1. The melody should be played with clear touch, making the tone bright and radiant. Especially in the high register, single notes and octave melodies, due to the structure of the piano itself, the volume may become softer. Therefore, it is necessary to strive to overcome this in performance to thicken the sound.
2. Most notes require a significant amount of emotion, and the playing should be leisurely and pleasant.
3. Phrases should not be overly polished; excessive delicacy can harm the overall musical image.
4. The accompaniment should have rich tone quality and a cheerful rhythm. Since the accompaniment patterns have a wide range, controlling the sound is challenging. Therefore, attention should be paid to the volume ratio between the left-hand and right-hand melodies.
5. Each piece in this book is accompanied by performance tips for reference. Additionally, chord markings are included in the scores, allowing performers to play the melody with the right hand and improvise accompaniment with the left hand based on the marked chord symbols. Even guitar enthusiasts can play or arrange in the same way.
