1. This dictionary is a comprehensive specialized dictionary of seal carving, covering all aspects of Chinese seal carving studies. It is primarily aimed at professional seal carving practitioners, faculty and students of relevant majors in art colleges, and amateur enthusiasts.
2. The dictionary is organized by categories. It includes seven major sections: "Terminology," "Seal Carvers," "Seal Collections," "Writings," "Schools," "Clubs," "Periodicals," "Seal Materials," and "Tools." It contains over 3,000 entries, accompanied by illustrations such as portraits of artists, book covers, printed seals, seal handles, and tools.
3. The dictionary includes famous ancient and modern seal carvers (including seal scholars, seal carving artists, seal handle carvers, and seal collectors and appraisers), as well as seal collections and writings, generally following the principle of broader inclusion for ancient figures and stricter selection for modern ones.
4. Entries for individuals are arranged in chronological order by birth year, while entries for works are ordered by publication date. For entries with unknown years, they are arranged based on the dynasty or approximate period they belong to.
5. Historical dates in the dictionary are annotated with the corresponding Common Era (CE) dates, usually omitting "CE" and "year." Historical place names are annotated with modern names, generally omitting "Province," "City," "District," or "County" (except for single-character county names).
6. The information in the dictionary is generally up to 2004.
