Why is the baby's head large during pregnancy?

Patient's question:

I have an itchy lower body, and my underwear is always yellow. What's going on? Why is the baby's head so big during pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

Your baby's head is slightly larger, but there's no need to worry—it's not hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus should be described on the ultrasound report. It's related to the head shape; a round head measures larger than an oval head. Measurement errors and non-standard cross-sections can also cause the measured values to be higher or lower. So you don't need to be too concerned. A follow-up ultrasound is recommended in 3 weeks.
