In 1919, the May Fourth Movement brought Bing Xin onto the literary scene. Ba Jin first became acquainted with her through reading her novels and poems. Having lost his mother at a young age and being somewhat solitary in nature, Ba Jin found warmth and comfort in Bing Xin's beautiful words, experiencing love and genuine human emotions. Later, after several twists and turns, he also chose the path of literature. In the early 1930s, they met through professional connections, and soon after, these sincere writers became close friends. In the early 1940s, Bing Xin even entrusted Ba Jin with editing her collected works with great confidence. After that, even while Bing Xin was in Japan, the two maintained frequent contact. The letters and articles of Bing Xin and Ba Jin included in this book, unless otherwise noted, were provided by their families and the Modern Chinese Literature Research Center. Some articles, although not extensively related to the topic, were included in their entirety or excerpted in this book because they contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the interactions between these two literary masters.
