Will varicocele blockage cause infertility?

Patient's question:

Doctor, my colleague has been unhappy these days. I asked her what was wrong, and she said her husband has a blocked vas deferens, so they haven't had children, not because he doesn't want to. Could a blocked vas deferens lead to male infertility?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, unilateral vas deferens obstruction has little impact on fertility, while bilateral obstruction, where sperm cannot be expelled normally, will lead to infertility.
1) Urinary and reproductive system infections: Such as epididymitis, prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, or epididymal and vas deferens tuberculosis, which can cause obstructed vas deferens, with the connection between the epididymis and vas deferens being more common.
2) Injuries: Such as inguinal hernia repair, varicocele surgery, or spermatic cord tumor surgery, which can damage the vas deferens; hydroceles of the epididymis or testicular spermatic cord, or hydroceles of the tunica vaginalis, which can damage the epididymis; prostate surgery can cause obstruction of the ejaculatory duct; or even without direct injury, postoperative infections, adhesions, or scar formation can compress or obstruct the vas deferens.
3) Tumors: Such as epididymal tumors, seminal vesicle tumors, or prostate tumors, all of which can cause obstruction of the vas deferens.
4) Congenital malformations: Such as the absence of the head, body, or tail of the epididymis, partial or complete absence of the vas deferens, non-connection between the vas deferens and epididymis, or underdevelopment of the epididymis, vas deferens, or seminal vesicles.
Recommendation: It is recommended to undergo a detailed examination at the hospital to identify the cause and receive targeted treatment. Additionally, maintain local hygiene and cleanliness in daily life, get adequate rest, and strengthen exercise. It is also recommended to take Jinghuosu to comprehensively improve sperm quality, the number of normal-shaped sperm, motility, semen volume, semen liquefaction, and other sperm indicators, thereby increasing the success rate of pregnancy.
Wishing you good health!
