Is it okay to have a baby at 39 weeks?

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried it might affect fertility, and I'm also extremely sensitive to cold and coldness. Is it okay to have a baby at 39 weeks?

Doctor's answer:

The fetus is full-term and can be taken to the hospital when labor begins. The normal pregnancy duration is around 40 weeks, but sometimes the delivery time can be a few days earlier. It is recommended that you have an ultrasound examination at the hospital to understand the baby's condition.
1. The mother can gradually reduce the number of nighttime feedings for the baby, from three to two, and then to one... Let the baby gradually get used to it.
2. To prevent the baby from waking up hungry, the last feeding before sleep should be delayed. Make sure the baby is well-fed before encouraging him to sleep soundly. The mother can feed the baby around 10:00 PM and let him sleep until 6:00 AM the next morning.
3. If the baby wakes up crying in the middle of the night, do not feed him. The mother should understand that as long as the baby is well-fed before sleep, he will not be hungry. Be patient and soothe the baby by gently patting him to sleep.
