Features: Since 1984, the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) has brought emerging design talents into its "New Design Dialogue" series, providing young designers with a public forum to discuss their creations and design trends. This year's guests come from entirely different fields such as fashion, publishing, web design, advertising, and art. Under the moderation of Chip Kidd, they showcased their masterpieces, shared their thoughts and creativity, and presented the future of design. Fresh air, lively fish; newly brewed wine, blooming flowers; freshly baked bread, freshly squeezed juice; and of course, our innovative conversations. The New York chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts' annual dialogue—with young, talented designers—has introduced many rising stars to the design world, showcasing the works of Jonathan Hoefler, Tibor Kalman, Jennifer Maala, and Stefan Sagmeister, among others. This year, we selected dialogue participants from diverse disciplines and experiences, seeking designers who, regardless of their experience or expertise, are creating popular and powerful works, engaging with popular culture, and constantly seeking fresh ideas. In the end, we chose five talented individuals from completely different fields—fashion, publishing, web, advertising, and art—Alice Chu, Rodrigo Corral, Allen Day, Agnieszka Zalewska-Gasparska, and Karen Hu. Under the esteemed coordination of the energetic Chip Kidd—a vibrant host—our guests participated in a dialogue about their creations and ideas, delighting the audience with a feast of works, including a dynamic new Times Square logo, a bold and seasoned Whitney Biennial catalog, wordless book covers, and the dynamic website of Fischerspooner. Kidd challenged these guests to reveal everything—their secrets to staying fresh, the influences on their design, and some of their most peculiar projects. This book is a record of a night of inspiration in design and discussion.
