Features: This book is written as a textbook. Our idea is to help students gain a systematic understanding of the fundamental concepts and related theoretical knowledge, as well as various basic layout design methods, through this book while studying layout design. We have not focused as much on specific details as some foreign books. The content discussed here on design elements, compositional elements, and various layout design methods is established with the objective of basic training, targeting various courses in graphic design. These contents summarize the phenomena, principles, and methods of layout in various graphic design forms. In foundational courses such as basic design and color composition, students have gained preliminary recognition and experience of the phenomena, principles, and methods of visual arts. This course builds on this foundation to further study and deepen their understanding and experience in visual layout design. In terms of examples, we tend to focus more on poster design, as posters are one of the most complex and widely encompassing forms of graphic design. Many exercises are included in this book to help students engage in creative design practice and enhance their understanding of the course content. It should be noted, however, that the completion of these exercises requires specific guidance from instructors. Since most current layout design methods are introduced from abroad, China has yet to develop mature design methods and styles in this field. While this book includes selected foreign works as examples, it also features some student assignments, most of which were created by students based on topics determined during the teaching process.
