Patient's question:
2013 August nipple discharge, Xiangya Second Affiliated HospitalDoctor's answer:
Acute phase of mammary duct ectasia may present with local redness, swelling, warmth, and pain. In some cases, fever may occur, but the white blood cell count remains normal, and the differential count is also normal. Treatment with antibiotics is often ineffective. In the early stages of the disease, varying degrees of axillary lymphadenopathy may be present, but the lymph nodes are not hard and are tender to palpation. Fine-needle aspiration cytology reveals heavily proliferative mammary duct epithelial cells, foamy cells, and inflammatory cells.
