Can you do an ultrasound examination of an ovarian cyst during your menstrual period?

Patient's question:

I have an itchy lower body, and my underwear is always yellow. What's going on? Can I have an ultrasound examination for an ovarian cyst during my menstrual period?

Doctor's answer:

The cyst is not large and can be treated with anti-inflammatory fluids. Ovarian cysts refer to a general term for cystic masses in the ovaries. The harm it poses to the body and its treatment depend on its nature. Generally, if the cyst diameter is less than 5 centimeters and there is no evidence of a tumor, it is often a functional cyst, which can be closely monitored, meaning check-ups every 2-3 months, and then adjust the follow-up interval based on the situation. If the cyst diameter is greater than 5 centimeters, it is more likely an ovarian tumor and generally requires surgical treatment. If accompanied by progressively worsening dysmenorrhea and dyspareunia, as well as painful nodules in the pelvic area, endometriosis (also known as chocolate cysts) should be considered. Different treatments can be adopted based on specific circumstances.
