Author: Guo Xi
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-12-01
Features: In recent years, Chinese sociolinguistics has made significant progress, and some universities both domestically and internationally have used this book as a required reading or textbook for related disciplines. These revisions were intended to correct some printing errors or inappropriate statements, but during the revision process, it was found that a major overhaul was necessary, leading to the current revised edition. In addition to correcting printing errors and inappropriate statements, this revision mainly includes the following changes: (1) Added a section on "Speech Community Theory" in Chapter and included content on "Language Competition and Maintenance" in the section on "Language Dissemination"; (2) Expanded Chapter 4 extensively by incorporating issues related to China's ethnic languages; (3) Separated the "Language Planning" section from the original Chapter 7 into a standalone chapter, with expanded and deepened content; (4) Moved the "Language Life" section from the original Chapter 7 and combined it with newly added sections like "Language Education" to form Chapter 8; (5) Added Chapter 9 on "Language Coordination and the 'Mandarin' Issue"; (6) Renamed the original Chapter 8 to Chapter 10 and added a section on "Variation Rule Analysis." Other parts of the book have also been adjusted and supplemented based on new literature.
