Can I have children after right thyroidectomy?

Patient's question:

Doctor, hello. I had a right thyroid and isthmus resection in 2011, and the left thyroid was preserved. I have been taking one tablet of (Levothyroxine) ever since. Recently, I also took (Poria Capsules), (Xianlinggubao), and D (Caltrate D). I recently found out that my wife is pregnant. She had a cold and fever a while ago and took (Aerik). Can I have a child in this situation?

Doctor's answer:

Since the medications used to treat goiter (which is often accompanied by hyperthyroidism) are endocrine drugs, they can affect the baby, so it is not advisable to conceive. Please have a check-up to ensure everything is normal before considering pregnancy. The occurrence of gynecological diseases not only affects women's lives but can also lead to further gynecological issues. Therefore, it is best to visit the gynecology department of a hospital for a routine examination. After identifying the cause, symptomatic treatment should be administered. Pay attention to dietary adjustments, consuming light and easily digestible foods, and avoid spicy, stimulating, and cold foods.
