What is adenomyosis

Patient's question:

What is adenomyosis? Can it be cured? How should it be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Due to certain influencing factors, the endometrium invades the myometrium but does not extend beyond the uterus. This condition is known as adenomyosis. In the past, adenomyosis was referred to as intrinsic endometriosis, while endometriosis occurring in other locations was termed extrinsic endometriosis. Recent research has found that although adenomyosis and endometriosis share similar pathological morphological features, their etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and response to ovarian hormones are all different. Therefore, most scholars agree that they are not the same type of disease and advocate abandoning the terms intrinsic or extrinsic endometriosis.
