What are the precautions after laser treatment for cervical erosion?

Patient's question:

Doctor,
I have just undergone laser treatment for severe cervical erosion. I heard that after laser treatment, one cannot use condoms for contraception, otherwise it is very easy to recur. Is that correct? What is the best method of contraception to use then?
Thank you for your response!

Doctor's answer:

The treatment time should be chosen 3-7 days after the menstrual period ends, as there is a certain wound on the cervix after treatment, and if it coincides with the menstrual period, infection is prone to occur. Therefore, patients should come to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible 3 days after the menstrual period ends; 3 days before the surgery, sexual intercourse is prohibited. Those with acute reproductive tract inflammation should be cured before proceeding; after treatment, there may be an increase in secretions or even a large amount of discharge, so it is important to maintain external genital hygiene, wash the external genitalia frequently, but do not use vaginal suppositories or vaginal douching on your own. Change underwear frequently, and sanitary pads can be used if necessary.
1-2 weeks after treatment, when the scab falls off, there may be a small amount of bleeding. If there is heavy bleeding, seek medical attention promptly; before the wound is fully healed, sexual intercourse should be avoided as much as possible. Sexual intercourse not only affects the healing of the cervical wound due to mechanical stimulation but may also cause vaginal inflammation, thereby affecting the repair of normal cervical tissue.
In the first one or two months after treatment, patients should go to the hospital for a follow-up to check the healing condition of the cervical wound. Under the guidance of a doctor, further treatment decisions should be made.
