Patient's question:
What does "Placenta: Anterior Wall" on an ultrasound report mean?Doctor's answer:
The normal attachment site of the placenta is on the posterior wall, anterior wall, or lateral wall of the uterine body.Types of anterior wall placenta:
1. When the placenta attaches to the side of the abdomen, it is called an anterior wall placenta.
2. When the placenta attaches to the side closer to the back, it is called a posterior wall placenta.
3. When the placenta attaches to the side of the body, it is called a lateral wall placenta, or more specifically, a left or right wall placenta.
All three of these conditions are normal. Generally, mothers with anterior wall placentas tend to have larger bellies, while those with posterior wall placentas tend to have relatively smaller bellies.
