Publication Date: 1963-08-01
Features: Ancient Chinese painting theory is extremely rich, but due to the limitations of printing conditions at the time, errors often occurred during engraving or handwritten copying. To provide professional workers and art enthusiasts with more accurate study and research materials today, our publishing house published the "Collected Works on Chinese Art" before the [Cultural Revolution]. It includes theoretical works, technical studies, historical records, and biographies on various aspects such as painting, calligraphy, and craftsmanship. Professional workers were asked to proofread based on fine copies, add punctuation, and make it convenient for readers. Hui Jie was written by Deng Chun of the Southern Song Dynasty. The author compiled observations on painting from the Xining period of the Northern Song Dynasty to the Qiandao period of the Southern Song Dynasty into a book, totaling ten volumes. Volumes 1 to 7 are biographies of painters at the time, Volume 8 is a catalog of private collections seen by Deng, and Volumes 9 and 10 present insights into painting art in a miscellaneous notes style. Hui Jie Bu Yi was written by Zhuang Su of the Yuan Dynasty. The author compiled the biographies of 84 Southern Song painters over 144 years as a supplement to Hui Jie, ensuring the preservation of painterly achievements from the Southern Song era.
