Features: Humor is a highly prominent genre in folk literature. Ancient Chinese scholars have long had a tradition of compiling and selecting jokes. However, due to differences in historical context, regional environment, cultural disparities, and taste in humor, we may not always laugh when listening to or reading ancient jokes or jokes told by others from different places or individuals. In light of this, when compiling this Folk Jokes, in addition to selecting materials based on the basic norms and requirements of folk oral literature, we also started from the essential characteristics of jokes and their artistic creation, adhering to careful selection, emphasizing "funniness," and ensuring a taste for humor. Content that is funny but vulgar or unhealthy has been excluded. Similarly, we adopted a broader perspective, including funny people and events from various genres of folk literature. For example, some "jokes" arising from the wit, intelligence, and humor of clever characters in stories have been selected. As a result, compared to traditional jokes, the selections in this book are more diverse in form, style, and length, not confined to a single standard. There are verbal jokes, narrative jokes, story-based jokes, plot-driven jokes, character-based jokes, and in short, all kinds of funny behaviors and actions are included. In terms of categorization, we also made our own arrangements and improvements based on the goal of attracting and guiding readers. We hope these efforts will be recognized by the readers.
